running a phenom II x3 720
having a problem running turbo V with windows 7 have tried multiple
bios updates and downloads nothing will let it install
running CPUz says my CPU is at 2.8 with a x14 times multiplier
so running amd overdrive will NOT allow me to OC anymore
i was using vista and was overclocking my CPU to 3.5 with the stock cooler and
was staying at a comfortable 55c load, after the windows 7 update
it all went downhill, tips advice anything, i can even post the CPUz report

thanks all

Like said, you got pretty decent board. Get rid of the software overclocking programs. Use the Bios to overclock. You using a stock cooler or a aftermarket one?

using the stock one, has worked for about a year now since i did the build

been overcloked to 3.5 from 2.8 using turbo V, i havent used bios to OC so im a tad nervous doing it, as for a nicer cooler, i want an aftermarket one, but my ram is friendly at the moment the heat fins are rather long and i think it would interfere, @3.5 i havent had any temps above 45c at full load, even using prime 95 or 3dmark vantage.

after this problem i have to figure out why my ram is only 1333 speed right now
its supposed to run at 1600 stock, and CPUZ says otherwise

thanks for the help everyone =)

also i am upgrading myvideo card this friday, and geting another 4 gigs of the same ram, was thinking of the Junper XT saphire 5770, i am sure it beats the 4670 x2 even tho tehy are 1gig cards, any thoughts on that as well?

sorry for all the editing, iran 3d mark to show my results so i can get some better advice for my video card

OCing from the BIOS is not as scary as you might think. Just go slow raising the fsb, multiplier and voltage. You should be fine.

I don't know how to tell which coolers will clear your ram but I have used the Zalman CNPS 9500 and the XIGMATEK Dark Knight and neither interfere with my ram.

In your BIOS there should be an option for DRAM Settings. Under that there should be an option for Frequency. You will just need to switch from 1333 to 1600. you may need more voltage in order to keep it stable. So refer to the specs on your ram for a guide on what they are supposed to be at.

I would spend just a bit more and go for the GTX 460 768mb model. it doesn't have 1gb of memory but it has a memory interface of 192 bits vs. the 5770 which is 128bit.

thanks for all the help, ill give the OCing a try slowly, doing the CPU first then ill set the ram, now as much as your right about the Nvidia card, i cannot use them, 1. i hate their support and have had trouble with them for years
2. i am a die hard ATi/Amd fan, and i loved their products for years. plus i believe my MoBo works with Ati, because the north bridge is set for that, (so i have heard) i am not very savvy with MoBos, just other parts.
thanks for all the help everyone, loving this forum already

well i looked at the box my memory came in and, according to it, my mObO supports my memory at 1333 but the same part number is not listed in the 1600 category, not sure if i should try to overclock or not.
once again u all have been great help =)

Get a 6850 instead of a 5770. Your memory, just set it to 1600 in the bios, just make sure you manually set the Voltage and Timing to what its default is at 1600. The CPU, leave the FSB alone right now. With a stock cooler you should be fine up to 1.4V. Set the voltage to 1.4V and just start bumping up the X till it gets unstable and back off one. Should make it up to 3.5ghz. pretty easy. Just keep a eye on the CPU temps. under idle and load. Have you tried unlocking the 4th. core.

yes

yes i have, i have bios 3303, asked me to press 4 wen loging in to unlock more cores, and it blue screened over and over, im thinking the core is unstable

wen i went to bios, it allowed me to manually choose what cores to run, and it had 6 cores all together, witch i thought was kinda strange.

i would love to unlock the core, but my attempts have failed

i would get the 6870 but sadly i cant spend that much, still finishing off the wife's computer build, so we can get her away from a crappy Del laptop.
i'm also looking for a internal fan mount that comes with the antec 900-2 case, i misplaced it a year ago, and want the damned thing back XD, Google has failed me

well i ahve recieved my budget to upgrade my PC, and have decided that

2 5770s from saphire are my choice, because, i enjoy X firing cards,

they look amazing, and i heard the power use is actually lower than 1 6 series... i am ordering these on friday the 5th at 6pm.

last post, thanks you all

last update, got the CPU at a comfortable 3.2 thanks to you guys

the ram is a different story, i set all the timings just like the specs say manually, even the voltage, and it wont start up, goes straight to bios
saying change system settings. not sure why, but i am going to contact patriot
sadly i love this company but if i get a lot of problems i wont upgrade to the viper 2 series like i really want to, i have also confirmed that my fins are too tall
and any aftermarket CPU cooler wont work, real friend experience.

i am going to research a few liquid cooling options, they are small, and quite
inexpensive, especially from my 900 -two case, a small radiator will fit very well. once again everyone thanks for the help =)
