Greetings All,

I have on 1 computer, a video file that is just over 3gb' s in size that i need to transfer BY DVD DISC over to my other computer. When i attempt to do this and burn that file via Nero 10 (dvd iso?) it says that the file is too large.

If i do it via udf(?) as it suggests, my dell desktop (2nd computer) cannot read the file (or at least it does not appear on the disc). HOW can i do this as above? Thanks.

Are you trying to burn it as a DATA DISC or as a VIDEO/MOVIE DISK?

If the file is lager than 4 GB then you will need to use the double-layer DVD disk of 8.5 GB and NOT the standard DVD disk of 4.3 GB.

If all you want to do is to transfer that video file to another computer then you can simply just burn that file on a double-layer DVD disk as a DATA DISK.For that purpose you can use ANY valid program which can burn DVD disks such as Nero,Alcohol 120%,Power ISO and so on...there are many more...

I use Nero 6.Newer versions are just terrible to me lol.

By the way if for some reason you cannot place that big video file ON YOUR COMPUTER because it says that the file is either TOO BIG or that you do not have enough place on your HDD for that file (but you know you have more than enough place) then you are probably using an old file system called FAT32 and you will need to convert it to NTFS file system.

Also there are MANY MORE ways to transfer files from one computer to another computer.Burning some files to disk JUST TO TRANSFER THEM TO ANOTHER COMPUTER is probably the worst and the slowest way lol.
You can use flash drives or external drives or even upload them online in order to transfer them on another computer. It's definetely better rather than burning something EVERY TIME YOU NEED TO TRANSFER SOMETHING lol.

Cheers!

***1st - CAPS ARE NOT YELLING - JUST SEGREGATING SECTIONS OF THE CONVERSATION***

Are you trying to burn it as a DATA DISC or as a VIDEO/MOVIE DISK?
NO -JUST TRYING TO MOVE THE FILE TO A DVD TO CARRY OVER TO MY OTHER COMPUTER

If the file is lager than 4 GB then you will need to use the double-layer DVD disk of 8.5 GB and NOT the standard DVD disk of 4.3 GB.
IT IS NOT - I DID SAY IT WAS OVER 3G B'S BUT, SHOULD HAVE STATED THAT IT IS UNDER 4GBS.

If all you want to do is to transfer that video file to another computer then you can simply just burn that file on a double-layer DVD disk as a DATA DISK.
JUST TRYING TO TRANSFER THE FILE, AS SIMPLE AS THAT, TO A 4.3(?)GB BLANK DVD.

For that purpose you can use ANY valid program which can burn DVD disks such as Nero,Alcohol 120%,Power ISO and so on...there are many more...
I ALREADY STATED THAT I AM USING NERO.

N/A.....NOT AN ISSUE HERE.

NOT LOOKING FOR THAT INFORMATION HOWEVER, JUST NEED TO TRANSFER IT VIA DVD TO OTHER COMPUTER.

You can use flash drives or external drives or even upload them online in order to transfer them on another computer.
N/A.... SEE THE ABOVE STATED WAY I NEED TO DO THIS ALTHOUGH, I AM FAMILIAR WITH THE WAYS YOU HAVE MENTIONED.

It's definetely better rather than burning something EVERY TIME YOU NEED TO TRANSFER SOMETHING lol.
N/A

I DECIDED TO REMOVE AND TRANSFER CONTENTS OF A FLASH DRIVE TO COMPUTER WHICH WILL FREE UP SPACE TO DO WHAT I NEED....THANKS ANYWAY FOR THE REPLY.

So did you try to burn the file with some other software rather than Nero 10?
Because if you see that you are having issues with Nero 10 then why keep trying?

You said that all you need to do is to transfer that video file to another computer. So it does not really matter what software you will use to burn it to a blank DVD disk...

So...if Nero 10 does not work well you can either try to reinstall it OR use ANY other program to burn that.

Besides...I really don't see why you would not move that file by putting it on a simple flash drive. You could have already be finished with it if you ask me lol...

LOOK, I HAD ONE ISSUE WITH THAT SO, INSTEAD OF HIDING FROM THAT PARTICULAR PROBLEM, I CHOSE TO SEE IF I COULD GET OVER IT..I ALSO HAVE SOME TIME CONSTRAINTS HERE ALSO...REALLY NO REASON TO KEEP DEBATING ANY OF THIS AS I WAS ALREADY BURNING IT TO A FLASH DRIVE BEFORE YOU ANSWERED BECAUSE OF THOSE VERY SAME TIME CONSTRAINTS.

You said that all you need to do is to transfer that video file to another computer. So it does not really matter what software you will use to burn it to a blank DVD disk...
I SPECIFIED NERO (10) SO, IT SHOULD BE EVIDENT TO ANYONE THAT THAT IS THE PROGRAM I WAS INQUIRING AND CONCERNED ABOUT AND NO OTHER..BY SPECIFYING THE PROBLEM AND THE TOOLS I HAD, SHOULD HAVE KEPT THE RESPONSES ON TOPIC WITH JUST NERO AND A DVD BUT, I SEE IT FAILED MISERABLY.

So...if Nero 10 does not work well you can either try to reinstall it OR use ANY other program to burn that.
SEE ABOVE STATEMENT! (NERO HAS BEEN WAS AND IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY.

"ASKED AND ANSWERED".....THIS ALL HAS BEEN RESOLVED....THANKS FOR THE REPLY.

.......this has already been solved......either way, A 3GB FILE WILL FIT ON A 4.3GB SINGLE LAYER DVD DISC.

Well obviously you don`t get that you do not get the use of the full 4.3GB, just like if you buy a drive advertised as 160GB when you install it, it is actually not 160GB.

So unless the file is only just over 3GB and not nearer 4GB, it may not fit on single layer, clearly if there was no problem the program would not tell you it can not fit.

NO, I DO GET IT!..BUT EVEN IF SOMEONE INSTALLS A HD AS IN YOUR EXAMPLE, THERE IS NO WAY 25% OF IT BECOMES UNUSABLE!

So unless the file is only just over 3GB and not nearer 4GB,
AS I STATED EVER SO CLEARLY

it may not fit on single layer, clearly if there was no problem the program would not tell you it can not fit

James this is bs. You can use the full 4.7GB of a DVD (even more in some cases). What you are confusing is the difference between marketing of 1GB as 1000MB (which it isn't) vs, actual of 1024MB meaning by the time you have a 1TB (market label) drive a small fraction of that is 'usuable'.

Lets get this straight, a 4.7GB DVD will take 4.7GB of data,

Da mail man just made some kind of error.

And Da Mail Man, please help others by posting what the issues was?

Da Mail Man...you still did not answer my question:

How are you trying to burn that file to a DVD disk?

For example:

-VIDEO/MOVIE disk
-DATA disk
-Or some other method...

Don't tell me "I AM JUST TRYING TO MOVE THE FILE TO A DVD DISK" because that means nothing to me.You MUST tell me HOW you are trying to burn the file to a DVD disk.

Also have you tryed other blank DVD disks as well?
Maybe the one you are trying to burn this file to is not blank or maybe there is just something wrong with it...
It happened to me few times...

Da Mail Man...you still did not answer my question:
I THINK I HAVE.

How are you trying to burn that file to a DVD disk?
CONSIDER IT A FILE, JUST THAT - A BLOCK OR SINGLE PILE OF INFORMATION TO BE SIMPLY TRANSFERRED TO A STORAGE MEDIA DISC (DVD) FOR NO OTHER PURPOSE.IT IS NOT TO BE MOVED THERE FOR USE AS A MOVIE TO PLAY ON A DVD DISC. MO DIFERENT THAN A LARGE PILE OF WORD DOCS TO WHICH THE SUMMARY PILE IS JUST LARGE ENOUGH TO NECESSITATE USING A DVD DISC TO STORE IT ON TO TRANSFER...GOT TEH PICTURE NOW??

For example:

-VIDEO/MOVIE disk
-DATA disk
-Or some other method...
SEE ABOVE

Don't tell me "I AM JUST TRYING TO MOVE THE FILE TO A DVD DISK"
AND THAT IS JUST WAT I HAVE AND AM TELLING YOU (SEE ABOVE).

because that means nothing to me.
I AM SURE IT DOES TO OTHER PEOPLE EXCEPT YOU. WHAT'S SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

You MUST tell me HOW you are trying to burn the file to a DVD disk.
JUST THE WAY IT IS - AS DATA..NOT A MOVIE, OR A GIF, OR ANYTHING ELSE..EVEN MOVIE FILES (VIDEO) CAN BE MOVED AROUND AS "DATA" UNTIL IT IS BURNED TO THE DESIRED END RESULT!

Also have you tryed other blank DVD disks as well?
YES

Maybe the one you are trying to burn this file to is not blank or maybe there is just something wrong with it...
It happened to me few times...
NONE OF THE ABOVE THAT YOU HAVE STATED.....EITHER WAY, ISSUE RESOLVED.

Omg................

You are the one who does not understand.
I KNOW that the file of ANY TYPE can be moved to any type of CD/DVD disk media if there is enough storage space. But you MUST use some burning software to DO THAT.And by MOVING the data to a DVD disk you are actually BURNING that to a DVD disk.
Wether you are burning it as a VIDEO disk,AUDIO disk or a simple DATA disk.

DATA DISK is the one you used and I asked you multiple times is the "DATA DISK" the one you want to use and you said NO and now that is EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID and then you tell me that I don't understand.

LOL!

In the BEGINNING I CLEARLY told you that you can do what you want by burning that file on a DVD as a pure DATA DISK type and you AGAIN kept saying that you JUST WANT TO MOVE THE FILE TO A DVD DISK IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO TRANSFER IT.
And then I again told you that in order to do that, the best way would be to burn the DVD disk as a DATA DISK and you again kept saying NO.And now that is EXACTLY what you did and you tell ME that I don't understand.

Unbelieveable...

And here is a part of your post in which you CLEARLY WROTE THAT YOU BURNED IT AS A DATA DISK AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I TOLD YOU TO DO MULTIPLE FREAKING TIMES IN THE BEGINNING (pay attention on RED letters):

You MUST tell me HOW you are trying to burn the file to a DVD disk.
JUST THE WAY IT IS - AS DATA..NOT A MOVIE, OR A GIF, OR ANYTHING ELSE..EVEN MOVIE FILES (VIDEO) CAN BE MOVED AROUND AS "DATA" UNTIL IT IS BURNED TO THE DESIRED END RESULT!

And here is a part of your post in which you said that everyone understands except me:

I AM SURE IT DOES TO OTHER PEOPLE EXCEPT YOU. WHAT'S SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

Conclusion:

You did EXACTLY what I told you to do multiple times in the beginning.I even asked you HOW you are trying to burn a file to a DVD disk and I mentioned "DATA disk" and now you tell me that I don't understand,BUT you NOW did exactly what I told you.

You are the one who does not understand, not me.
I know a lot about these things and I also know what a freaking file is.
I would not be able to make programs for data (files) encryptions and decryptions if (like you said) I don't understand.

OK peoples, calm down. No sense in getting bent out of shape over this. According to OP issue has been solved so no more discussion is needed.

Actually there is a limit on how much data you can put on a 4.7gb dvd disk, limit is around 4.3 gb of actual data.
