Net Send HELP!

Im trying to send some messages to other computers on my network. However, aparently messeger isnt turned on:
The Messenger service is no started.

Is it OK to start it? (Y/N) [Y]
System error 1058 has occured.

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because t has no enabled devices associated with it.
How do i get this to work? Otherwise, how can i send a message to another computer on my network with no extra software installed on that computer? It needs to be a popup with the message in. I am running XP Home and the computer im trying to send to is running XP.

Thanks for any help

?

How?

I've just googled it and on wikipedia it says:

As a result of this abuse, the Messenger Service has been disabled by default in Windows XP Service Pack 2, a change perhaps redundant as the same service pack also enabled the firewall by default.

thanks

yes, it needs to be turned on in servicices; to make sure your computer is constantly speedy, i would reccommend you set it manual rather than automatic, this will reduce your startup time.

start > Run > services.msc > messenger > right click > chenge to manual
