Netbook?

Hi,

I am in the market for a netbook, my first non desktop computer. I am looking to buy this netbook (10" screen) for the purpose of surfing the web and doing some other things will being mobile. These "other things" consist of only spread sheets, "Word" documents.... In other words, I don't need the fastest computer available, just something to do the basic functions. Also, I would like it to be a "quality" netbook. Am I asking for too much? I forgot to mention, I don't want to break the bank, $300 - $350 would be my price range. What are your recommendations?

I have an old Dell inspiron laptop that I like and have alwaays liked Dell. What about either of the first two? Dell netbooks

Well a bit late, but here's my input...

I tried a few Atom based Netbooks in the past. They're fun and all, but when you really get down to it, they're too limited. I'm not too sure how the latest Atoms work, but the N270/N280 is extremely limited. It's fine for very basic typing/emailing/browsing, but flash files simply kill the processor. Plus, most netbooks are 1024x600. This is too small to view some sites, and even some dialog boxes in programs.

My suggestion would be to step up a little bit. I have a Toshiba T135 that's Intel SU4100 based. It's a low power dual core processor. It's more than capable of running most any flash-based site/video as well playing HD videos. Battery life is better than my Atom netbooks, screen resolution is higher (1366x768). I also find it much easier to use, being a more normal size. Unless you really need the smaller size or can't afford one of these, I'd strongly suggest looking into it.

I am with you. It is really limited. expecially when you encounter viruses and need a total clean install. it does not come with any dvd drives or any kind. if this is your only laptop. I would go for a regular one.

This is true too... Though my T135 doesn't have an optical drive either :P Though I already have an external DVD drive so it doesn't affect me that much :rolleyes:
