Network Adapter Not Detected After Reboot..Help Please

My friends computer was screwed up so i had to reset the bios by removing the battery on the motherboard..and i reinstalled xp and i'm not sure how to get the network working..when i plug in the lan, the computer doesnt even detect that its there..his comp is an emachine t2984..im not sure wut kinda network card it is but i think its an intel..and it says lan is enabled in the bios..but yeah..any suggestions??
 
make sure the computer has drivers for the network card, if it doesn't know how to use the card then it'll never work. i would assume the link strangle posed it where you'd go to find what you'd need.
