Network card/adapter help!

Hey guys!

I'm really clueless about all this network cards and adapters. First is their a difference with between a network card and an adapter? Second im into gaming and i wondering what the best wireless network card/adapter is for my needs? I live in SA (Australia) and i'm with Adam internet, if that helps.

You really don't want to game using a wireless adapter. You'll want a direct cable connection to the router/modem. How far away will you be from the router? Any obstacles between computer and router?
 
Well there is a wall between the computer and the router, I reckon 2-3metres away. And yes i would prefer a cable connection rather that a wireless connection. I really dont know what to do?
