Network Controller

I don't know how much information is needed to diagnosis this issue. I changed the hard drive in my Dell Vostro 1500 with Windows XP and everything seems to be working ok except Network Controller has a yellow question mark next to it in the Device Manager. I tried to download the drivers in the order Dell recommends, but I probably did it wrong. This seems to be an issue with Dell. I am also not able to get the Wireless Connection added in Network Connections. I can download the wireless driver but it does not go to Network Connections. Help!

After you download the driver, did you install it? In device manager right click on the controller and select 'update driver", you should be able to point it to the folder that the driver executable extracted.

I've tried all the install stuff, update stuff, download stuff, uninstall, reinstall, etc. Everything leads me nowhere. Every time I go to a Dell website they talk about installing drivers in the "right order" or there could be problems. I think I have those problems! So my question is, I downloaded from the Drivers Utilities cd that came with the computer. The cd now has a check mark on it of the drivers I've installed. When I try to reload the same driver from the cd the first thing it does is removes the running driver. So, can I uninstall all the drivers I originally installed and then reinstall them in the correct order? If I can't do that I think I'm in for formatting and reinstalling everything. I hate being a PITA! Your help is really appreciated. Rick

There is no correct order to installing drivers. Wherever you're reading that it's not true.

Extract the driver from the download to a folder on your desktop. Then go into Device Manager, right click on the device, and choose Update Driver. Then just navigate to the folder with the drivers in it.

Hello,
My name is Faraz and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell
It appears that you need to know how to get the correct drivers for your network controller on Dell Vostro 1500. You can follow the steps below to get the compatible network drivers installed on your system.
Please click on the link for:
Ethernet Driver : http://tinyurl.com/75dghrp
Wireless Driver : http://tinyurl.com/7vhfk6e or http://tinyurl.com/87zx274
Please make sure after extracting it you also install the same it should show the installation automatically otherwise you can manually go to computer ->c drive -> dell folder -> drivers folder -> select setup and install it.
Hope the information helps you to resolve the issue.
Thanks,
Dell-Faraz M
