Network DNS Disappearing

One of our computers at my fire station (Using Windows Vista) ocassionlly looses its connection to the internet but remain connected to the network.

I fond the problem one day when I went in to the network connections and choose properties then Internet Protocol Version 4 I noticed the DNS were cleared out (both of them) I have them manually set rather than automatic because when it was on automatic there would be a coflict withour coper / scanner on the network (but it has been like this for a over a year and this new problem just started about a month ago)

I replaced the DNS (used #'s I found on another pc on network) and internet service came back just fine. But unfortunately this has happened 2 more times in the last month.

Anyone have an idea what could be causing the DNS entries to vanish?

No it is showing the DNS Servers fine when doing an IP Config.

I did notice however that yesterday it happened after I performed a restart on the computer

I've noticed a similar issue with windows vista. Occasionally when you're using it the little globe on the network icon in the try will disappear giving you the idea that you're disconnected from the internet when you aren't actually disconnected at all. What I've found that this seems to be is that the service that controls that globe goes out and talks to a dns server out on the internet. Which ever server it's talking to tends to not respond quickly enough now and then giving vista the false idea that you're not connected to the internet anymore. So my question for you is this, what DNS servers are you using? Is your issue similar to the issue mentioned above or are you actually completely losing the ability to browse the internet?

No completely losing internet connection. Still able to access other computers on the network but only losing the ability to go online.

DNS being used are:

167.206.245.129
167.206.245.130

When you lose connectivity can you still ping devices on the internet by their IP address? For example if you're connection was "down" would you be able to ping say 4.2.2.2? If you can in fact still ping things out on the internet it appears that you're having an issue contacting your dns servers. This being the case I would suggest changing your DNS servers to Open DNS which are as follows.

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

If you cannot ping anything by the IP address when the internet is "down" we're looking at a different issue and should troubleshoot from there.
