Hello buddies.please we have a medium sized network of 30 servers and 260 workstation and we have an low latency application which needs to be priortized over other traffic over wan link to other branches.please any recomended network mangment solution with bandwidth shaping feature is appreciated.thnks in advance

What is your WAN connection between branches? Are you using a fiber-based solution, or using a VPN over an internet pipe such as cable or DSL? If you need low latency, fiber is definitely the way to go. Our environment switched from bonded T-1's to fiber and our latency between sites dropped from 15-20ms to 0.5-2ms.

It is a fibre optic connection with 2mbps bandwidth.what I am looking for is a network managment software that has bandwidth shaping feature.

Sorry, but why do you have fiber with only 2Mbps bandwidth between sites? That should be your first priority to improving performance. What kind of data do you have going between sites? What latency times are you seeing currently?

You'll also need your provider to set QoS settings on their end of the link (as well as you on yours), otherwise you would prioritize traffic out but whatever traffic coming in would be lumped into the same queue.

Usually you can make a policy map on your router to forward DSCP markings to the WAN.

Leading off Beer's comment, if you have fiber-based internet service then his points of QoS are completely accurate. You can prioritize all you want but once it leaves your modem it's up to your ISP. However if you are renting point to point fiber service through your ISP, then generally the entire connection is yours to prioritize however you like.

Please respond to my previous questions as well if you want further help.

Thank you both for the reply.regarding the latency requirment,I dnt have the figure for that but I will verify from my supervisor.as regards the Qos settings,I agree with you "beers".we are already working on that to be implimented on the ISP side.in the end what we will need is a network management software that can create, edit and enforce the qos poilicies from a central point on all the managed network routers and switches not just for Qos only but also the network device monitoring.I know solarwinds management solution has some of the features required but lacks creating, editing and enforcing the qos policies.in a nutshell, we require a software or a solution that has both monitoring and qos management feature all in one.thank you for your responses in advance.

What is between your WAN and LAN? A router? Firewall? What piece of equipment do you have? Chances are if you're using a router such as Cisco or similar, or a hardware firewall such as a SonicWall you can easily configure QoS.

yes we use cisco 7200 router and cisco asa 5510 hardware firewall.thnks
