Network Monitoring

I'm currently using Verizon as my ISP using their FiOS internet. The router that they provided has been resetting itself randomly the past few nights. I've only been noticing it at night when I'm gaming and I'm unsure if it's also been doing it during the day. I was looking for some free software that would monitor my network connectivity so I could see when and how often I'm losing my connection.

I forgot where in the verizon routers but if you go though the interface of the modem there is a log in there on one of the menus that tells you what times the connection drops and some times provides a error code.

good utility for network monitoring including drops of internet

I followed dannaswolcott's advice and went exploring through the router itself. There was a network monitoring tool, but it clears out every time the router resets apparently. It does, however, let me know the last time it dropped. Either way, I got up with a Verizon tech today and they're sending me a new router that should be here on Monday.
