network problems

I just got a new computer and can't get it to connect to the internet. my home already has an ethernet system with 2 computers that are online. I tried to connect mine, but it wont even register that there is a connection. All i had to start with was a bunch of multicolored cables which I had to wire to different spots. Im pretty sure I did this part right because the other computers are the same way in my house. What could my problem be?

Ok at home you have 2 pc's and they are online right ?
so how are you connecting the new one ? and how are the old ones connecting ?
thru switch or router ?
you are also speaking of cables, are you crimping ?
 
What about the IP configuration of your network? Did you set your new computer to be in the same subnet?

If you don't have any idea what I'm talking about, go to one of the connected computers, Click Start-Run write CMD then write "ipconfig -all" without the quotes

do the same on the new computer and compare the results of IPAddress, Subnet, Gateway. Post the results
