Network vs wifi

My Internet goes down a lot and I have a lot running on WiFi so when my Internet goes down so does all all my WIFI stuff because it runs off the router. If I have a Network HD or Printer and my Internet goes down I believe my Network stuff should still run?

Your wifi devices shouldn't die if the WAN side does either. Both the WLAN and switched (LAN) side should still be operational from within the internal network.

If everything is dying at the same time it sounds like a larger issue with the router.

Are you sure it's your modem or service that's going out, and not your wireless router? If your wireless devices are having connection issues, then it sounds like a wireless router issue. Your LAN will stay up and running regardless of if the internet is up.

What's going out is the router which isn't wireless, It's a modem, router combo hook up to coax. If the modem went out my wifi would still work but if the router goes out then the wifi won't work but the network should. I think I have it right?

Correct, but if the modem/router itself is failing, then you could lose both. If you're losing the wireless, there's a good chance that unit is failing. You can either replace it or buy a second wireless router.
