hello.
i am not really familiar with alot of computer information about networking.
my question is about getting a wired internet connection to my computer, and also a wireless to my sister's computer.

1. the things i dont understand is that. my internet provider gives off 13m.
and i dont understand how some wireless cards can go 300mps. all these number statistics are confusing me.

2. also like my ethernet card is 10/100, and i'm wondering if i need to upgrade it to a 10/100/1000 for a better speed.

3. and um which do you perfer me going wireless b/g or n for fast networking.

i know its a quite alot to answer, but i would really appreciate it.
i'm a noobie and i really want to start learning.

Go out and get a Wireless G set up. All the higher speed stuff is not standardized yet and the technology may change when it does (anytime from end of summer 2007 til end of 2007 802.11N will be standardized). Your cable connection sounds like its 13 megabit connection, so if you get a G wifi set up, it has a top speed of 54 megabit, so surfing the net won't change a bit. Transferring files from computer to computer will obviously be slower with a slower connection.

No, you would have to upgrade to a gig switch, run all cat5e or cat6 cable, and honestly you'd never take advantage of the speed being a home user.

802.11G is the way to go right now

That is how you learn, you ask questions no worries.
