New $1500 build

Hi all, I'm starting from scratch :) , I have $1500 to spend on all but monitor (or close to it). I am re-visiting this with a new intention - minimal gaming if any, some video/photo editing/burning/multimedia, and office stuff. I'd like someone to help build me a computer, what I like for components so far are

core2duo 6400 or 6600
connect3d x1900 (i do like the vivo option)
asus p5b or gigabyte ds3

i need help from experts with 'non-gaming' pcs. i'm getting lost in the specs of all the components...

thanks in advance!

im going to get something similar to that hopefully after the price cuts, i would recommend you do the same
edit*** does the ds3 support quad core (excited at the hope it might)

For minimal gaming you picked a gaming card which is more out of place than a processor that targets video, photo editing and multimedia.

I don't know much about video cards, i just really like features for multimedia, like vivo and i thought the price wasn't too bad... what else might u suggest for vc? is the mobo ok?

Originally i picked out a $20 videocard and a far better mobo (P5B DLX). If you so desparately need video in, then grab a tuner card. :)

Is the P5B a better mobo than the DS3? What vc do you recommend if not the connect3d (i'd like something that, if i do try an occasional game, i won't want to throw the machine out the window:( )

Well i originally picked the P5B DLX which has the ICH8R southbridge, then due to the budget I picked the Foxconn P9657AA-8EKRS2H [i965, ICH8R] ($107.99) but then saw that you had a preferecne for motherboard so i picked that one

I'd reccomend sitting down and figuring out what you want to do with the machine (i.e., you said you wanted to do video and photo ops and minimal gaming -- if any, i picked the perfect CPU for the job and you werent sure .... would be worth checking to plan what you want :))

If you had an extra $100 then you can have the best of both (the Connect3D and the P5B, maybe even P5B DLX)

If anything, it's easier to come up with the extra $$ rather than limit my activities with the machine... I don't game now but I can't say I won't get hooked within a year, I've never had a kickin machine and monitor so if it's a matter of $100 or so, I'll spend it for the flexibility.... so with that said, you'd add the p5b deluxe, connect3d, what about ram... still ok per your first post?

I have to take off for the night, the foxconn you suggested supports quad core, the p5b does not (according to newegg)... could i oc the foxconn? also, now i'm tempted to wait to april since the price drop is huge on this processor. if i buy everything else now, what could i get for a dirt cheap chip to get this thing assembled?

looks like the p5b deluxe doesn't support quad core by neweggs specs...
Newegg is retarded. Have a look at the people who, in fact, would know

so with that said, you'd add the p5b deluxe, connect3d, what about ram... still ok per your first post?
Ive just finish building a machine for extensive processing and modelling somewhat similar to this and I can tell you definitively, you can always get better (mine was for an insitution so the budget was substantial), but the costs rise extremely quickly. The machine in my original post are head-and-shoulders above what you originally picked out ....

As for what more you can add, that depends on what exactly you want.
