New 6600GT causing Problems

Hi All,
This is my first time on a forum belive it or not. Anyway I could really use some of your expertise on a problem I've got.
I recently purchased a AOpen 6600GT and ever since installing my PC keeps crashing even with the latest nvidia drivers. Can anyone offer some advise on how to fix this issue ?
My system is made up as follows:
FIC VG31E Mbord
Intel P4 3.06ghz (533mhz)
512mb ram
AOpen 6600GT vga card
Creative SB Audigy
x2 Maxtor HDD
XP operating system
I think the MBoard is x4 AGP and the Card is x8 AGP - could this be the issue?

I've just upgraded the card from a FX5700LE which worked fine, knowing my luck I will have to shell out for a new MOBO?

PS whats the internet LOL

before buying a new mobo, try exchanging the video card for another 6600gt, its possible the card is defective

heh are you seriously asking what the internet is?

Cheers for the info, I'll contact the people I bought it from and see what they have to say, I think I know the answer though.

Only kidding about the internet, I was responding to your txt "hey they have computers on the internet know"

Maybe power considerations? What PSU do you have? Are your voltages stable?

Well even with some people (cough... black-Karol ... cough) its hard to tell :P

just open the side panel and you should see a sticker on the PSU that will tell you lots about it. did you connect the additional molex? i would think it will just fail some 3d operations but it could lead to other instabilities

Also check that the rail isnt stressed too much by splitting power left and right :)

OK, PSU is 230V - 5A - 50Hz AC Input. I've added a splitter to the supply as I didn't have enough connectors to power the content of the PC.

you woundn't happen to know the wattage would you? unfortunately 230v, 5a, 50Hz AC doesn't help. Usually you need a >=350W PSU for the 6600GT

Definitely .. 250W is also the max wattage ... which prolly wont be the normal operating wattage :)

Latest on this, I've changed the power supply to a 550W - No difference.
I've even got an MSI 875P Neo FISR 2 Mobo on the way.

The place I got the card from have now replaced it suggesting that it may have had a bad chip??? Anyway I'll test it and post again if I have no success.

Thanks for the help

I have a similar issue.

My display produces a flashing mess:
• when Lego Racers starts its 3 initial video clips
• when capturing DV from a Digital 8 Handycam via IEEE1394 (in media player area only). Was locking up initially.
• while playing some movies in Media Center 10
• etc.

The aforementioned also occurred with XP Pro (no service packs) and XP x64 loaded. This new system is very unstable. Locks up after playing several non-CPU intensive games (even kids games) after a few minutes of play.

I have no other PCI-e cards or systems to swap components with.

Any ideas? Could my system instability during game play and DV capture be due to this video card and its issues? What should I do??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Below is information about my system. Please let me know. Thanks,

1. What video driver revision do you have?
2. Chipset drivers all up to date?
3. Is the video card getting clean power? :)

I believe that the video and chipset drivers are up to date, but I will verify tonight. I have reinstalled so many OS’s and drivers it’s hard to know if I updated everything this last time around.

As for clean power, I have no idea how to measure or check???

One item that I failed to mention is that the mother board calls for a 24 pin main power connector. I didn’t know this prior to purchasing the power supply. After reading a few comments on forums such as this one, I thought it would be safe to use the 20 pin power supply connector + the 4 pin Molex next to the PCI-e slots. Maybe I was incorrect.
Asus FAQ’s indicates that one benefit of the EZ-plug (4 pin Molex) “…Users don’t need to buy a 24-pin PSU if they setup a dual-6600GT system. A high-wattage 20-pin PSU will work just fine.” Maybe you can shed some light on the subject.

By the way, thank you very much for your response!
