What is the exact error message you are getting? Windows 98 will not see a drive bigger than 137gb. You must do multiple partitions to use 98.

My guess is the hard disk drive is a Serial ATA drive. You'll preferably need XP SP2 or above really.

Either that, or you have more than 512MB of RAM.

Pay attention to what the others have said. Time to upgrade to a more modern O/S. If your computer isn't powerful enough to run Vista then go with XP.

It is possible that your drive is formatted as FAT, especially since you're using win 98 which doesn't recognise NTFS. In this case there is also a maximum filesize limit for FAT which is, I think, about 2GB

If you are planning to use Windows 98 for Internet use the operating system will likely get ripped apart with malicious software as the Windows 98 doesn't have good security features. Get a Windows XP, Vista or a free operating system like Linux Ubuntu 32-bit Version 7.10.
