New 9600gt

I looked around some websites to find that the 9600GT is not as good as a 8800GT and found a rumour that wouldnt strike me as surprising but the 9800GT is basicly a remake of an 8800GT. Its hard to tell when they are not out.

R/D works that way. In creating a chip, they invariable discover more efficient means and ends. And woe to the manufacture who has to create an entirely new chip around this architecture, they simply use what they got. G92.

I hear people calling it equal to a 3870.

Radically different core architecture disallow the direct comparison of hard specs. This is especially true when comparing ATI to Nvidia. Check out the Anandtech benchmarks Thatguy posted a page back, see the nominal difference the two cards specifications equate to.

This is why i don't understand, admittedly competent, sites like GPUreview, and why people reference it when trying to show a cards worth. Those numbers rarely mean something, speed of RAM, power draw and less so, Fab process, are relative, but most everything else is not. C'est la Vie..
