New AIM worm problems

New Member
I stupidly opened an AIM worm and now I'm having the hardest time trying to get rid of it. You get it from other people by them saying "hey can i add these pictures of you on facebook or myspace <url>?" or some crap like that. i have run norton av fully updated and it didn't pick it up. here's my hijackthis logfile.

i am pretty sure that
O23 - Service: Microsoft DLL Registration Component (DLLReg) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\regsvr32.exe
is the virus.

the thing is that the file doesn't show up in windows explorer or cmd.exe either! i tried booting into safe mode and deleting it but it didn't show up either. the process is running under system service priviledges, not under my username which i find very odd for a virus.

any help is greatly appreciated.
 
While waiting for a reg fix to help with this have you tried any other antivirus utilities like AVG? http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 Along with AVG the beta version of Windows Defender has been proving itself worthwhile for flagging anything at all going onto the system. http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx It will ask upon detection if you want something removed. But for more direct and immediate means of removal after infection, http://www.jayloden.com/VirusClean.htm This is one article and link for tool.

not smart Alex, you sure it wasn't from the spicy rice you refuse to call back? :) Sean can't believe you'd actually click on it, he says he never does. Maybe it's time to transfer out of CS....
