hey guys
im new, so sorry if this is in the wrong place.

i upgraded to a new motherboard, processor, graphics and sound card.
i used my old hard drive and repaired XP, i got a notice thing from the notification thing in the bottom right corner that said "this version of xp is no longer secure" i tryed to upgrade to service pack 3 but it wouldn't let me. because i was using firefox. i downloaded IE7 and IE6 which both wouldn't work on my service pack. so presummed the repair had put me back to SP1, i downloaded IE5.5 SP1 thkinking that would work then update everything back up to date. now after installing IE5.5 SP1, my computer starts up and gets to my background but doesn't load any desk top stuff or the bottom bar so i cant do anything.

what should i do now? nuke my harddrive and start from scratch with xp and loose everything or is there a solution?

could do with knowing asap if possible :)

cheers

You can slave your drive on a another system and copy any data you need. Is your XP install cd the original version with no SP or SP1, SP2? You can create a new Slipstreamed SP2 install cd by using a program called Autostreamer.

go into safe mode. run msconfig. set startup to diagnostic boot. boot back into normal mode. install an antivirus. do a scan.
