New Build, ~$2000, need advice

New Member
New build to be done this spring sometime. Should I wait for the new nVidia 9xxx or stick with the 8800gt? Will upgrade to SLI eventually, but not now. Purpose will be gaming and entertainment mostly. Going with on-board sound for now because I will be upgrading to a professional sound card with optical outputs to go in to my Bose Lifestyle 42 system. If you see any problems with the build, please let me know. Questions and comments are welcome.

Yeah, nothing replaces a straight jack into the router/modem, but for my setup I have to go wireless because our modem is downstaris in the study. And my room must have a poor cable signal because when I tried to relocate the modem/router to my room so I could directly connect, I didn't get a signal (even hardwired). And we've already got a booster running to power the HD theater we have in the man cave (basement). So, long answer, but yes, I have to go wireless for now.

This is like ~1.2 Grand.... very high gaming performance from CrossFire 3870's... +you can add double the RAM if you'd like.

Not sure about your monitor. Heard some bad comment at other forum...
May be a Benq one? Not sure...

Also, will a E8400 be a better CPU? But it hard to find one anyway...
 
westinghouse monitors are built by 5 year olds with plastic screwdrivers, if you get that thing you will be very disappointed.

and as for hte 9 series.

THEY SAY, and i mean they say. that two 9600 is better than 1 8800gts. but id like to see proof of that. but like i said. thats what they say. my card is amazing, its a better deal than the GT version because its about 10% performance boost and its got a better stock cooler. Depending on your case, will be how cool it runs. My GPU under load is 44C and idle around 38C so thats pretty low for an 88

The reason why I was shying away from the 8800gts is becasue it takes up duo slots. And I'm concerned about space because I need a wi-fi adapter, eventualy i will need a profesional optical sound card, and I want to run SLI in the future...So I'm basicaly looking for the most powerful single slot nVidia cards out there.

And to the person who suggested crossfires...

8800gts doesnt take up two slots, i have one. i have 4 different pci-e slots to choose from and i have plenty of room. so idk.

I thought the 8800gts had one of those double decker fans on top of the card like the 8800gtx. I know it doesn't plug into the mobo in two places, but doesn't it take up the "room" of two cards?
 
Those 2 improvements up there are good I guess, cant really talk about the monitor since I don't have one, but the graphics card is a good step.

The F7P is a great budget cooler, but if you really want to get into overclocking I recommend a more expensive one, such as the Zerotherm Nirvana 120, the Zalman 9700, or a Tuniq Tower.
 
That monitor is absolutely perfect. Have a Dual display, seen in action first time today. No dead pixels, perfect refresh, although only small 1680 x 1050 resolution. DVI and VGA inputs, rated 5/5. Would recommend this monitor to anyone, so for god's sake, just buy it.
