new build - blue screen

just built a pc - loaded vista, now i occasionally get the blue screen with the memory_management error. what is this all about? my thoughts are possible ram issue. according to abit site http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=147163,
Corsair 2GB TwinX DDR2 PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 is compatible with my abit ip35 pro mobo - but i bought the CAS5 version of the corsair. would this cause the intermittent blue screen? or is it more likely bad ram module, i have 4X1GB sticks. the other thing i noticed in uGuru software is that the DDR2 voltage is 1.8 and the RAM setting is 1.9, i changed to 1.9 but still had the problem so i reset it to default of 1.8.... what's going on?????????:confused:
 
spent 3 hrs with microsoft today trying to figure out this problem, they're saying maybe the motherboard or ram for this issue... here's a little background:

built the following

abit ip35 pro
quad core q6600
4x1gb CORSAIR XMS2 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) 5-5-5-12
2x 250gb WD se16 sata raid 0
1x 750gb WD se16 sata
asus dvd
card reader
vista 32 bit home premium
GeForce 8600GTS

we disable the video/audio/dvd drivers, still get the STOP 1a memory_management error code
STOP 0X0000001A (0X00041790, 0XC0801716, 0X0000FFFF, 0X00000000)

i get this error about every 4 or so reboots, sometimes vista runs fine...

ddr2 voltage is at 1.8 default

anybody have any ideas what the heck is going on? mobo/video card/ram...
any help would be greatly appreciated

Could possibly be that you are running 4gb of ram on a 32 bit system. remove 2 modules to see if that fixes the problem. Also could be that your memory voltage needs to be changed to make the system stable. Not sure what else it could be but maybe bad memory?
 
Abit isn't really known for high quality motherboards... but John's idea sounds reasonable. I'd try that first. And if that doesn't work, download Memtest86, burn it from the .iso file onto a CD, and run it overnight.
 
i downloaded memtest, created a bootable cd with the image and my machine gets stuck in a boot loop going from mobo screen to the screen where it trys to recognize harddrives.... in the meantime i had bumped up the ddr2 voltage in ugura to 1.9 from 1.8 and removed 1 stick of ram. what am i doing wrong with memtest. i used nero to create a bootable disk and selected the downloaded file from my desktop.
 
Nothing. If it's not getting past post, there's something else...

Reset your CMOS, and insert the memory and everything again. I would not recommend touching the voltages, as the motherboard usually sets everything to optimal settings...

Try one stick at a time. Most likely one or 2 sticks are dead...
 
Thanks for the help! Narrowed the issue to one of 4 gig sticks of my corsair. With 3X1GB sticks in the PC is now running without blue screens. so my next question is - what's the best way to see if it's really stable? is there a good test to see if I'm ready to try overclocking? should i use uGuru software to overclock? I'd like to get the CPU closer to 3.0 ghz from the stock 2.4...
 
Stress test it.

ORTHOS
Prime95
PC Wizard Benchmarkers
Folding @ Home Client

Overclock in the CMOS. Run any of the above (1-2-4 best) after overclocking around 50-100MHz...
