new build - budget gamer

hello - im thinking of building the following system - could this be a "decent" gamer for the following games :

quake 4
call of duty (complete series)

i also play older games i assume that would run with now issue like

quake 3
unreal 2 awakening
warcraft
halo
unreal tournamnet *first one
doom 3

The 8600GT isn't too good for gaming. Here you can see how the 8600GTS(which is better than the GT) in CoD4 and 32.5fps at 1280x1024 is far from amazing.

What is your budget?(do you live in the US?)
What do you need? (Monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, operating system, etc.)
Are you willing to attempt to build your own computer ?
 
im in canada - i have attempted a build in the past (the machine im on now is my own build and is beyond worth upgrading - p3 800 )


the above pc is a quote from ncix in canada for 965 (windows xp home is included in the quote)

id like to stick under 1,000 dollars

i could remove the nvidia card and switch it to a ati if there is a "budget" card they have wich would do better


i dont need a moniter (i have a daewoo 19nf crt which i plan to re-use) - speakers - ect
