So I'm down to the this. I'm going to be building 2 comps. 1 now and 1 more in a couple of months. I don't have a budget but want it to be good enough for my needs and 2-3 years of use hopefully.I mostly use for internet surfing. I'm just getting started in the music IPOD stuff. Little gaming like Counter Strike and my daughters play WOW. I also use for work storing word, excel and power point docs. I want to go wireless on the printer and bought a HP 7410 wireless all in one that I never hooked up 1 year old. I have a THX certified logitech surround sound.

once we know a budget i can give you some specific items and maybe some links.

Cohen thanks for all the help, your a custom computer building fool...<~~~~ I mean this in a good way... I've been reading all your post and how you recommend lots of parts for people. And your only 14, keep it up and one day maybe you can open up your own shop. And to answer your question, I'd like to keep the budget somewhere in the neighborhood around 1000.00-1200.00 for the system less the monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers. I was thinking of just using my XP operating system again, seeing I already have a new copy sealed and I'm not familiar with vista, unless there is something about Vista that is much better. I can alway upgrade the operating system later, correct? As for the Mobo whats the main difference between the Asus P5Q and the deluxe? Also for processors I was thinking of the Q9450 because it's only $100.00 more but was doing some research and the forums I visited say it doesn't overclock as well as the Q6600. I have never overclocked but I'm now considering. I was looking at the OCZ700GXSSLI for the psu for 89.00. And the rosewill RCR-103 is only 14.49 to read my mini sd cards. What custom pc would you build yourself today. Without going completly extreme that is? I'm up for all options, I'd like a nice build that will last 2-3 years. And again, this is going to be my first start from scratch computer. When I build the next one in a couple of months I'll have some expierence.:)

Thanks, well i have never had a member say that before, thanks a lot!

OK, well i will do a build for you now. and i will answer your question in that post with the build.

As answer to a few of your questions...

1. personally vista gives me headaches when i use it. I would stick with windows xp sp2 or sp3 because it takes up less ram, therefore your pc runs faster, and it's easier to navigate to me, but sometimes you might need vista to match certain needs. Really and trully just use the OS you would enjoy using most.

2.You can't exactly update your operating system from xp to vista because it will erase xp when you install it, therefore deleting any previous data you had on xp. You can solve this by putting up with the tiresome task of backing up all your files onto cd's or any other storage device. You can also create a seperate partition for vista, but i won't get into that right now.

3.As for the motherboard, generally the deluxe version has something special or upgraded about it. Some examples include faster memory support (such as ddr3), and stays cool easier.

4.Also I wouldn't waste an extra 100$ on the Q9450 because the Q6600 can overclock to 3ghz which would be way way more than you need for surfing the web, ipod, play CS, and WoW (in fact you can more than likely do all three at the same time!). Even with the Stock Clock speed the Q6600 will be more than you need.

OK, well i will do a build for you now.

OK, here we go:

Total - $886.42

Hope this is, not sure on the card reader as i don't add those into builds often, but maybe someone else can you give one, sorry :o

That CPU is like the Q9450, just the Bus speed is 1066mhz, not like the Q9450 which is 1333mhz, won't make any difference

Well, went i leave school, i'm thinking of doing something within IT. Maybe opening a shop, where i can do builds for people and fix computers :D.

Done, as above.

Yes, you can always upgrade the OS whenever you like, but XP will be fine and "very" quick.

Here is a comparison list

really there is nothing, more PCI slots, and a big price difference.

I explained about this under the build

Done, that is it above, for your next build probably best to post a new thread when you are doing it, and i or another member can post you a new build, because there will probably be new things out then.

That is definitely going to be a good enough computer to meet your needs. =D

Edit: I think that katy person should advertise her stuff some were else cuz no one is gonna buy some overpriced pc

Thanks guys, I'll post my specs. when I order it all in. I have to leave for a few days and don't want to order until I get back. You only have a couple of days from some manufacturers to get your mail in rebate in so they'll honor it.
