new build!

Sorry guys I also forgot to say that I'm looking to keep this new pc for a while, so please help me build the meanist video editing and gaming pc for around this budget. $1400

Thank you!

Galosat.

well you might want to go for either AMD X2 or Intel Core 2 Duo

you'll prob want around 2GB of some fast RAM. either ddr800 with 4-4-4-12 timings or ddr1066 with 5-5-5-18 timings

video card is questionable. you would need a nice fast one like a 7900gt for gaming but you need a different kind for video editing and rendering

Which CPU has better benchmarks when dealing with video?

All suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

Thank you!

core 2 duo has been better on all benchmarks dealng with video. There was only 1 encoding benchmark where the E6300 lost out to top of the line PD.

Get a core duo, and make sure you are using a good video.graphic card combination for maximum results with the software

if you have that budget then a conroe processor is definately the thing, also i think that one graphics card is enough for now, it would be expensive and not as good to use sli with a budget like yours.

Are you more into gaming or video editing? Because if your more into video editing you might want to sacrifice some GPU power for a better CPU. Yeah, I know it's video editing, but for your budget it's better to concentrate on the CPU/RAM subsystem for video editing.

I'll be doing both so if you think I need to maybe raise my budget I can go up another $100 to a total of $1500. Probably a little more video than gaming.

Thanks!

You are going to need a good all around system. Good Processor, Ram, and Hard drive for the Video editing, and a good gaming graphics card like the X1800XT. It isn't worth getting a workstation graphics card for this system, because the increase in video editing would be alot less needed than the major decrease in gaming performance. Have you ever overclocked a computer before?

I put in Windows just in case, and I allocated $50 to the case of your choice. Total: $1497 +S/H

Choices: Take out XP Pro, downgrade to E6300 replace with an Extra 19" LCD
+$0 roughly

I also am assuming that you are going to overclock it. Anyone who builds their own computer usually gets to tinkering around with overclocking some day :)

Thanks Jet for the help.

One thing is that at the link you provided I saw bad reviews on this motherboard, what is the best one right now?

Oh, thank you thank you thank you. I was looking for the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3

I couldn't find it on newegg.com, but here's from zipzoomfly.com:

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3

Also:
Do you need an operating system?
Are you going to overclock your computer?
If you look for cases at Newegg.com, post links to the ones you're interested in.

What games will you be playing? The X1800XT will hold up to a lot of gaming, it's equal to the 7800GT.

Evga 7900GT KO

If you don't mind rebates, this is the best card (the 7900GT) for price/performance (according to Tomshardware.com), though either the X1800XT or the 7900GT would be good, the 7900GT is significantly better.

Ok, so let's review.
