I just put together a computer and when i turn it on all of the fans start spinnning, the optical drives turn on, and the hard drive turns on. The only problem is i'm not getting any picture. NO picture at all on my monitor. i have used this monitor before so i know it is it. the specs for my comp are in my sig. oh yeah the fan on the video card spins but it doesn't produce an image. i'm wondering if this could be my fault or the video cards. i mean could this be due to improper cpu instilation or maybe its even the mobo. PLEASE help

no sounds/beeps nothing, it just turns on and stays on i have to flip the switch on the PSU to get it off. pressing the power button on front doesnt do it

Sounds like a motherboard or GPU issue.

I'm pretty sure that your motherboard has onboard video, so take out you GPU and try starting up without the 6600GT. If that works then its your GPU.

If that doesnt work then its probably something wrong with your motherboard. Make sure its properly connected. I'm not sure but doesnt the PCI-E need to be powered with some 4-pin connector. Just make sure its all connected.

Did you remember to connect the 6 pin PCIe power conecter to the graphics card?

EDIT: Beat me bigsaucybob...

i'm pretty sure that my mobo doesnt have onboard graphics and my gpu doesnt us a 6-pin connector. everything else is running fine though. i just cant see it. i am having my friend over and he is bringing his pci-e card so we will see. if not i gues it must be the mobo. or could it be the cpu i dont know how could i go about checking it individually?

make sure the speaker is plugged into the correct jumper pins.
that would be the first thing to check, if the motherboard gives you beeps then they'll tell you what is wrong depending on what type of bios it has. (phoenix etc..)

I'm not getting a beeb at all do i need to connect a speaker to it to hear the beebs i thought mobos had that built in them already? i checked all of the jumpers they seem to be in the right spot. could it be the bios chip?
uggg i wish it would beep i guess that means its the mobo

Now I'm guessing you are way beyond this and I'm not trying to be insulting, but I just put my first system together and had the same problem initially. Same symptoms exactly.

I had forgoten to hook up the ATX, 4-prong power cable on my MOBO (ASUS A8N5X, so it is similar). If this is the problem, the plug is near the top left corner of the board and the location can be found in the MOBO manual as well.

Yeah that 4pin plug is needed. It gives extra power to the CPU. Plug it in and it should be plain sailing from there :)

No offense taken!! but i do have the 4-pin power plug in the top left corner plugged in. initially i plugged it in the wrong way so maybe i fried it. and yes there is another way to plug it in besides the correct way. but when i did plug it in the wrong way it didnt start up, this is how i noticed it was plugged in the wrong way, so i dont really think i could of fried it unless it turned on. but i dont know.
