Hi all. I am just building my new desktop and it isn't working.

I have put in the motherboard, PSU, RAM, and cpu. I have connected all the front LED's etc. I am now trying to switch it on to see if it will post, but all that happens is that the CPU fan spins about a quarter of a turn. There is no noise or anything from the PSU. Is the PSU the problem??

Thanks in advance, Doug.

OK, I just tried the PSU with the old motherboard, and exactly the same thing is happening. As well as the CPU fan turning slightly the fan in the PSU is as well, but again, only about a quarter of a turn.

Thanks, Doug.

Check all your connections. And if it were me, I would disconnect everything and then plug it all in again once I had verified that everything had been connected.

What kind of hardware are we talking about, and how big is the PSU?

Hardware & PSU:

300w mATX PSU, 2.4GHz Celeron, mATX mobo, 512mb RAM.

It is only a cheap PSU, but it should be sufficient for a setup like the above, I think?

The second setup I tried it on was a Pentium 2 PC, which works fine with a 150w PSU normally.

Thanks, Doug.

Did you put the standoffs under the board in the right places?

Yeah, it was a straight swap with the old board. Only difference is that there are two extra holes, but I have ignored them. However as I mentioned earlier there is exactly the same result if I try the new PSU with the old mobo.

Doug.

As long as there is not one under the board where there is no hole, so it isnt grounding out on the bottom of the board. You got the 4 pin CPU power connector plugged in? If the case speaker is plugged in, are you getting any beeps?

7 screws came out, 7 back in, so no, there is nothing interferring. both the power plugs for the mobo are plugged in. Case speaker is connected - no beeps or LED's flashing. Literally all that happens is the PSU and CPU fan turn 1/4 of a revolution.

Cheers, Doug.

FIXED IT ! I was being a bit if a d***head and using the PCI power plug on the mobo. But in my defence it was attached to the 20pin connector block!

Thanks for your help guys! Doug.

Bah I was just about to post a suggestion on that....90% of all PSU screw ups are people either using the wrong connector OR they plug in the 24 pin and forget the 4/8 pin ^-^
