New build problem

I just built my computer and it crashed!

I have an Intel i5 2500 Sandy Bridge on a Asus P8Z68 MB. Everything was working great yesterday. I installed Windows 7 64 bit, loaded all the drivers, downloaded all the Windows updates. I then cut the system off.

This morning when I cut it on it wouldn't boot. Kept getting BSOD. I finally booted in safe mode but while I was investigating it just died, nothing.
I couldn't even get it to power up the fans.

The remote power switch light was on but that didn't work either. I tested the PSU and it's working. The strange thing is, when I pull the CPU power lead off of the MB it will come on and run all the fans. I'm also getting the proper 12v DC at the plug.

Any thoughts?

I'm thinking it's either the MB or the CPU.

It is probably the Motherboard. Especially if you did not overclock the CPU.

Try and RMA the motherboard and see if that is the problem.

I was thinking something along the same lines only that maybe the CPU lead is shorting out the board. Which is possible if the mobo or the CPU lead was wired wrong :/ My guess would lie in replacing the power supply, sounds like it is the faulty one. Then again your mobo could be the culprit..

I would say RMA both, because if it isnt the mobo that is causing the problem and it is the power supply, all that is going to happen is that you are going to get it put in, turn it on, and you will get the same out come. It may start up and play just fine and then shut down and never come on again.

But also in the same breath, it could be the mobo and you could be just fine... Only there is always the underlying risk, you take, of killing the replacement mobo if it is indeed the power supply.

That decision is yours sir :) Good luck on your new build. My best friend just built an I-7. Says it runs fantastic.
