New Build Problems

Hey, I just built a new system, but I've run into some problems. I have it set up and when I go to power up, nothing displays on the monitor. I'm not getting any beeps either. The CPU fan spins, the fan on my 7800GT spins and that's about it. My rear 120mm isn't spinning and I don't know if the 80mm fan in the front is spinning. Any suggestions as to what the problem could be? I feel there might be some faulty wiring, so I'm going to check up on all the connections.

Are the case fans connected to the motherboard or to the power supply? If the mobo, then you have some conflict there. If it's the power supply, then I'd think you have a bad power supply...

Give us a bit more

Originally, the fans were both connected to the motherboard. Then we hooked them up to the PSU. However, I think I may switch back to the motherboard. I think I may be missing another wire to the motherboard or something. I'll look into it tomorrow when I'm not so tired. Thanks for your help. What conflict would arise if I was to connect the fans to the motherboard? I figured I would let the motherboard control the fans.

Yeah, some motherboards can control the fan so that's the prefered place to connect them. However, they aren't interchangeable without some sort of converter. Its just one or the other...

The only problem I can think of with connecting them to your mobo would be power issues. Some fans actually can't be connected to the mobo due to how much power they draw but this is rare...

I don't think the fans have anything to do with your problem... I'm still wondering about a powre supply, but it could be loads of things... :-/

Does the video card require a power connector from the power supply? Maybe thats why its not working right. Or if it is hooked up then I would say that its definately a power supply issue.

Make sure both the 20 pin power and the 4 pin power are plugged into the mother board. If the 20 pin is plugged in and the 4 pins is left un plugged the heatsink fan will power on but the rest of the mother board will not be powered causeing that effect.
