New build, thoughts?

My wife needs a new computer for everyday normal useage, I plan to take the dvd/cd drive and HD from the old computer. I also have a audigy se soundcard and my old x1300 I will be putting into it.

Comments?

1 gig of ram would be plenty, but otherwise the system looks good. Also the core duo is probably a bit much for everyday internet and word processing sort of stuff but if you have the money I say go for it.
 
By better you mean more voltage and by faster you mean not compatible?

Yeah, but if that is all it will be used for, it will be several years before it becomes too outdated for it's use.
 
do you really need conroe 6300 for everyday use.

I built one for my parents. and it really was a waste of money until
my bro came back and used it for photosphop, maya and other 3d programs on large files.

if your wife does not need this much power you should consider
buying a so called "barebone cases" it has power supply, motherboard and case. it may turn out cheaper.
athlon 3800 x2 should work just fine.

anyway your motherboard is junk. why would you want to put e6300 on intel 945 chip????!!!!
buy motherboard by asus and get either 965 or 975 chip.

this one is good. there is one p5b deluxe without wifi. wifi is used for
wireless keyboard speakers printers etc. so if you want to use wireless mouse and keyboard it's good. but you can also buy asus p5b without wifi and buy wifi card later.
I bought P5B-express. but you have to put 1.8V memory on that motherboard. g.skill is good memory too. and cheap too.
your memory is slow. but maybe that motherboard does not support faster memory.

my friend has the same and I bought it too. so it works 1 full year. and no problems. I don't turn off computer.

but consider " barebone cases" and athlon x2 for everyday use. what I wrote above may be a little more than you need.
I just thought putting e6300 on intel 945 chipset is such a waste of money on conroes.

also if your old HD has ide interface. it's better to buy
western digital or seagate with sata II interface. it has 3gb band width.
twice the old ide.
you can get 250gigs of seagate or western digital for around 70$ on newegg.

most choose western digital.
but I bought seagate with perpendicular recording. seagate has 5 year warranty. western has 3.
 
I prefer a quality PSU over a 'larger' psu. Pushing more volatge out less efficiently does a computer no good. That 380 could easily power this and potential upgrade. Thank you for the advice though. The HD is a SATA II and I chose the processor so I could OC it when programs being to demand more CPU power.

The MOBO I will reconsider, although I will be buying Gigabyte, I really like the way there BIOS is setup. The chipset does make sense, that was an oversight on my part.

well you have radeo 1300 card so you might check if it has minimum PSU.

380w is kind of weak.
but you should know that asus make the best mobo.

380w should be plenty for that system. Antec makes very good quality power supplies and supply a more constant voltage than cheaper brands so a cheap brand 500w would actually be worse than a 380w antec.

And i don't agree with asus making the best motherboards, it all depends on what kind of motherboard you need and what you want to do with it. buy based on price and performance, not by brand. What does it do? How well does it do it?
