New Build v.2

yeah thats the card, but it only has 16 pixel pipelines???

check this one out for less it will save u money:

XFX PVT71PUDP3 GeForce 7900GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card EXTREME---$185.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150202

Next lesson on graphics cards:

While pixelpipelines have mattered a lot in the years gone past, now a wide range of things matter. Compare these two GPUs:

X1950XT: 16 pixel pipelines, 48 Shaders, 625 Mhz Core Clock
7900GTO: 24 pixel pipelines, 24 Shaders, 650 Mhz Core Clock

Believe it or not, both these cards perform very similarly with the X1950XT winning in situations where Shaders are slightly more important, and 7900GTO winning elsewhere.

shaders smaders (what do they do anyway?)

This is not my personal question but will help this guy decide which card.

Looking at GPU charts on Tom's Hardware and I can't really figure out which card best describes

SAPPHIRE 100186L Radeon X1950XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102067

This was the card you guys were talking about I assume.
The card that seems closest to that one is the ATI X1950 Pro 256mb

There are also to ATI X1950XTX cards, but they are 512, (assuming not what you meant)

Still not sure that is the card a few of you recommended, specify if you please =)

EDIT: or was it ASUS EAX1900XT/HTVDP/256M Radeon X1900XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 CrossFire Ready Video Card - Retail

There is a X1950PRO, a X1950XT 256MB, and an X1950XTX 512MB Card. He was reffering to the X1950XT 256MB Card I believe.

For GPU it looks like its coming down to (still accepting other suggestions, but please post a link, not just a name :P)

Could not find an absolute match with Tom's Hardware GPU comparing chart for the Radeon, so I do not have a clear answer as of now =/

I see there are other eVGA cards with relatively similar stats, but they are all out of stock and I do not want to have to wait for one, so I chose the Superclocked. This seems to be my main concern now, I think I have most other components figured out =)

Also, with the second more expensive build I posted, will those components be able to support an 8800 card? Mobo, PSU, etc?
(leaning towards more expensive build - cheaper in the long run)

Thanks for all the info so far :D

Those parts would go very nicely with an 8800 card. GTS or GTX.

It's just me, but I'd rather get the e6400 or e6300 and get the 8800 series. Any of those C2D processors are easily overclockable.

Don't really plan to overclock, only fiddling I want to do with BIOS is to make thing compatible if need be (Mobo voltage etc). At least not for a while, this is my first build, so I want to play it safe.
