I just ordered the parts for my new build - Phenom II X4 955 BE. I plan to put win7 64 on it and have a few questions.
I had planned on using the oem version vs the full retail to save money. I know it is then tied to this machine alone and don't think that is an issue. Is the lack of cust support an issue? Can it be updated through normal windows update, etc? (I am assuming so since my XP OEM version works like this but it was built by a vendor at a computer show. But then I think they activate it differently.)
Also, if I do this, would it be worth it to get the current deal of the Win7 upgrade for students that is going for 30 bucks? That is, would it work to upgrade from the OEM version to a retail? Is this necessary? I guess I prefer to have a clean install of 7 with no MS support rather than an upgrade. It seems that garbage is always left behind. Otherwise I could get Vista and then the upgrade.
