New Build

A core 2 Duo is overkill for internet/email, and ECS is just a cheap brand, not affordable, but cheap.

I would go with a low end AMD dual core or maybe a Pentium D.

Does 700.00 include OS?

uh i no see a monitor, i guess im blind does she have 1 already? honestly if your getting all this stuff you might want a new monitor. and 256mb radeon is well defintly not high end, but you could defintly go cheaper on that and alot of stuff. and like dude above this, whos account name escapes me, that processor is just wasting away money.

She already has a monitor... it's an older 17" CRT, but why spend another $150-$250 on something she doesn't want or need? The only people that REALLY need any remotely new monitor are people that do image/video editing, otherwise, it's just something thats nice, but not necessary. And also, the point of getting a E6300 is that it will be a system that won't be out of date for quite a while.

Also, I normally shy away from ECS, but that particular motherboard had decent reviews, describing it as exactly as what I need, a good motherboard, as long as it's not for gaming.

Yes, $700 includes OS.

Finally, maybe you didn't check the link, that 256MB Radeon is only $50. The cheapest you can really go on a new video card is around $30, so why not spend the extra $20 and get something that wont get outdated as fast and is much more reliable?

I don't think this is unreasonable... otherwise she would be getting a Dell, and paying $1000 for something not as good, so why not pay less and get a more powerful computer?

Remember, this computer isn't for gaming. The 7300 may be a faster card, but for general uses, would more memory be better?

EDIT: Also, I won't be sending in any rebates... I need the warrantys.

Still, it's much easier to return to Newegg, other companies have different return policies and procedures.

Anyway, too late to change now, I just put the order in.

Also, if it interests those of you who thought that I was over doing it, I'm still way under budget... the parts cost $558 with shipping. Pretty good for any build, I'd say, much less a dual core.

I think your M/B has onboard graphic card, Why do you need a graphic card if you are not use for gaming?
If I were you, I would buy a better M/B like GIGABYTE GA-965GM-S2 or ASUS P5B-VM now. If you want to use this computer to play game in future, Just buy a good Graphic cards later.

Graphics cards speed up everything... not just gaming. I thought having an E6300 with onboard graphics would be silly.

Ok, guys. Pretend for a second that you're not obsessed with high power gaming computers. Now is this a good build... it's only going to cost me about $650 including OS.
