New built comp doesn't work

Alright, I've built one or two computers before and do have an idea of what to do. I'm kinda suck at the moment with the new comp I just built. When the motherboard welcome screen comes on, it has options to press del for setup and tab for post message and so on. None of the options it has works except for the tab. So after pressing tab, it goes to check memory, then freezes when it is checking for IDE devices. There are also options to go into setup in this screen as well, but nothing works. Any help? Could the motherboard/cpu be malfunctioning?

yes i'm using a wireless usb keyboard. i would think it's not a keyboard issue because though none of the other keys seems to not have a response, the tab key still does, and after multiple pushes on the keys, a beeping noise comes on.

could be a harddrive issue, it's on a sata connection using a ide/sata converter. memory was installed new.

You will have to enable USB support during POST to be able to use that interface of a keyboard during POST... so you'll need a PS/2 compatible keyboard to change the settings...

Try using IDE only. Use your OD's line. (Optical Drive; DVD, CD, ect)

Check your jumpers as well - do you have a DVD / CD drive connected????

Because could be the jumpers.

A bad adapter will just cause it not do detect. No reason for it to freeze.

It's not doing anything because it is trying to search for the drives. That is what it is doing. Just you don't see anything happening. So you "think" it is freezing.

Like said above if your using a USB keyboard and mouse you need to use a PS/2 keyboard and enable USB keyboard support in the bios.

i can't recall which adapter is which, but on the one that is a usb, it is connected to a ps/2 adapter and plugged into the ps/2 port.* will i still have to get a different keyboard?
