new card

i got a pentium 4 1.4 with 512 mb ram and a 9600 se card but the performance of the card is realy bad most of the time 15 fps. i think i need a new graphics card because i tryed everything but it stays the same.
what is a good card? i dont want to spend 400 euros for a nvidia 6800 but i just want a card that has a good performance playing bt 80 fps>.

Are you saying that you have a 1.4Ghz Pentium 4 processor? Because that could be your problem. I'd get at least a 2.0Ghz P4 with a card like that. Remember that your PC only runs as fast as the slowest component on it. But that card should be performing higher than that, i agree.

I agree the p4 is probably the bottleneck not the video card but a 2.0GHz S423 will be friggen hard to find.

I agree the p4 is probably the bottleneck not the video card but a 2.0GHz S423 will be friggen hard to find.

CLose call on that one ... the 64bit, downclocked video might be the issue (my P3-800, Ti46 can handle UT2K4 at a more-than-playable rate)

It doesnt have to be the videocard. Clogged out HDD can do that to ya (or hell a drive running in PIO mode can definitely do that)

Virtually any medium range card made in the last 3 years

Those 2 are the 2 i would recomend, because on a p3 1.2 system with 512 mg ram and the microstar card i'm averaging 28fps (it's an old system i use for network play), and for the money you couldn't get a better card IMHO.

Forgot to say, with it being the pro model, it's a great overclocker if used with adequate cooling, (artic cooler recomended for air cooling, or water cooling for really high overclocks)

For that kinda money, 6800U/X850XT ... of course thats just a silly waste of money and be much more cost-effective with 6800GT/X800XL

Agreed an X800XT is the way to go and you can get them for less then £350.

Actually, I believe 400 Euros is closer to 275 GBP, so that'll definitely change some things for ya.
