new cd rom

Hi
I have a Dell gx 260 and it only came with a dvd no cd rom I have fitted a cd but now the pc wont recognise the dvd ? any Ideas?

usually dvd-rom drive can read CD's tough,.. that should be a problem.

as for your actual problem.. I assume they're on IDE, so make sure the jumpers are both set the CS (cable select, means basicly the pc chooses how to adress them).
the other option would be to set the jumpers of 1 drive to Master and the jumper of the other drive to Slave.

As Archangle said you need to set your jumper, but DVD-roms will run cds too!

He probably wanted a CD-Burner, thats my guess.
