I am purchasing a new computer (on a budget), mainly for gaming. These are the specs im looking at now:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ Socket 939
2048MB Kingston DDR400 PC3200 for ram (2x 1 GB)
ASUS A8N-SLI Motherboard
Western Digital 250GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA II
ATI Sapphire Radeon X1300, PCI Express, 256MB, DVI, TV-Out
Onboard audio/network card
500 Watt Colorsit Power Supply with 12cm Fan

win xp home will be my os

i think my weakpoint will most likely be my video card... but i can upgrade that later. Anything you guys would change for now? keep in mind i am pretty much maxed at my budget, so if i want to get a nicer vid card to start with i will have to sacrifice something else, like going with 1 gig of ram. Let me know what you think.

That's quite a budget if you can afford all that! I don't know how good the video card actually is, but I'm sure there's a bit you could scriface if you wanted. RAM is certainlly one. I'm running 1G in my main system and it's fine. I might upgrade soon to 2, but I really don't think it'll help all that much... SATAII drives are a waste, if it's much more than SATA... My SATA Raptor drives can acheive 216MB/s as a raid. I SEROURLY doubt that one drive would much much, if any faster than one of my drives, so no real point in getting SATAII IMO...

OH, and do you have a CD ROM or any type?

the reason i went with 2 gig of ram is I play DAOC (mmorpg if youve never heard of it) and it is VERY ram hungry

the whole thing is going to cost me just over 1400 canadian (plus taxes)

and yes, i will be getting a samsung 16x dvd rw +-

one thing i was thinking about doing was going with the x2 3800+ (will save me about 100$) which i could invest into a video card.

I would get 1GB ram and a better video card, it's much cheaper/easier to buy a stick of ram than to try to sell your old video card then buy a new one.
