New Computer AVG/Norton

I just bought a new desk top that it has Norton on it.I just got internet hooked yesterday and it's got Norton on it but I don't want to use it.
Can I just remove it and install AVG Free or do I need to do something else?
I haven't activated Norton yet.

Also I seen on AVG site that they have AVG Premium for free now.
Would that be totally free or free for a few months then pay?
Which is better?

AVG premium is technically not free cause you have to pay for a trial program from some other company. click on the link to buy it and you'll see what I mean. I would definately get rid of nortons though and use avg free or one of the other free programs such as avira or avast.

Yes, it is safe to remove Norton off of your system though you may have a hard time getting it off completely. Go to Norton's site and download a removal tool. These special un-installers help completely remove Norton whereas if you were to do it on your own, there may be left over Norton bits in the registry, file system, and other places. Sometimes, this will prevent a new anti-virus from installing.

If you go with AVG Free, make sure to get Commodo Firewall and Malwarebytes to complete your security package as AVG isn't the best with spyware and has no firewall built in. Windows Firewall just doesn't cut it.

i agree with the others norton is bloatware bad.it will really slow a system down, and they have already advised the best free av's.so i have no more to add to that.

Another question about this,
Since I have not opened Norton up and ran it on this computer, can I just delete from the add/remove programs without downloading the remove tool?
Or should I use the remove tool?

Just for your peace of mind, download CCleaner. it will remove anything left over in the resgistry and install directories... use it after the removal tool to see if missed anything.

So I removed Norton using symantec, now for the Commodo and Malwarebytes.
So I'm guessing I load them on along with AVG?
I thought you wasn't suppose to mix match programs like that.

Also, when I downloaded that removal tool,am I now suppose the delete it or does it delete itself after it does it's job?
