So, I managed to convince my uncle to expand the budget a wee bit which allows a lot more options. First off, I would love it if there was some PC in Best Buy that just had everything we need that we could just go in and buy. If something's a bit meh, but upgradeable, then that'd be good too.

So, I'm going to use it for YouTube, recording some music/videos, and a bit of gaming. Really just wanting to play Dead Space right now, so that's really it. I'll also be editing music/video a bit as well, so consider that too. Also like to burn discs and such, so that too.

My uncle sells stuff on eBay, so that coincides with the need for a good graphics card.

Currently, Best Buy-having models are these two-

If not this, I've just been customizing PC's through the HP and Dell sites, but kinda bleh in the whole computer knowledge area, so yeah.

That's pretty much it, the lower the price the better, and thanks.

If I do get the Dell however, would I need to upgrade it?

I think what hes saying is if you have to upgrade/repair the dell system in the future your options will be limited to Dell only parts. Thats why buying a prebuilt machine from another source maybe a better option. Lots of builders on ebay at good prices. And if you need an upgrade in the future you can use off the shelf components.

For example heres a system on ebay ending in 12hrs. Probably get it for a 1000 and its put together way better than a Dell

It comes to $854.98. I thought this would be a nice system that would work and if I needed to, could upgrade over time.

RAM is DDR2, you could use DDR3 with the right mobo.

I dont know how hard you game but that video card is exeptionally average.

Everything else is fine (though maybe overpriced), I only have an E6550 and it does everything i need and more.

I'm not that much of a gamer, I've just been wanting to play Dead Space recently. As long as it can run and not look like crap, I'm pretty good.

But the card I do have, it'd be easy to replace down the line, right? It's not this specially sized, hard to replace kind out card?

The $999 Dell machine is a lot better than HP

Yeah, bumping bad, but I need to know whether this sounds like a decent comp that is easily upgradeable in the future. I'm not able to upgrade the DDR2 to a DDR3 through HP's website, but is it necessary?

I think to know for sure if your computer will be easily upgradable youll need to know the exact parts that go in it. There are lots of custom builders online that allow you to pick every part and customize it to your needs and your budget. The parts you pic are all off the shelf items and can be replace/upgraded in the future.
I suggested before you look on ebay. Your budget is 1000 and this computer fall right into that will free shipping. Just an example

Though that computer looks quite awesome, I'm afraid my uncle is looking for something more straight from the store/manufacturer instead.

But it seems that the set up I listed will be the one I'm sticking with then unless there's something that manages to sway me.

One last question before I take the plunge. Processors. If I remember correctly, Dead Space requires 2.8GHz of...running speed thing. Going with the HP, I have a choice of a Duo Processor that runs at 2.93GHz or Quad Processors that either run 2.33GHz or 2.5GHz. I would think that the Quad Processors would be better, but with the GHz, I is a bit confuzzled. Halp?
