Before I state my problem here are my specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core
Motherboard: ASRock H97M Anniversary Micro ATX LGA1150
Memory: Team Elite Plus 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600
Storage: Hitachi Ultrastar 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 270 2GB WINDFORCE
Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower
Power Supply: Corsair 500W ATX12V
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Ok now that's out of the way, my problem. So I have built the computer 2 weeks ago and when I'm using it for about 5 to 10 mins the screen goes black. However, there is no change that I can hear in the sound of the computer running. The graphics card is still going and the fans are still spinning but I cant't do anything. I end up having to force quit it and then when I try to boot it up again the windows logo pops up and and the loading wheel goes on the screen but it just goes black and nothing happens. After a couple of restarts it automatically repairs itself and then when I hit restart the cycle starts all over again. It also will not let me enter BIOS when the Setup menu pops up right at the beginning. The screen just goes black on this too. Please help.

Have you try remove GPU and plug it directly to onboard VGA? If that works OK, it would probably be your GPU or PSU...

^ I'd try that as above.

I had that problem when shipping a 7870 GHz (basically the same card) in a build to my dad. It worked fine when I was building it but when he pulled it out of the box, no video when loading windows (brand new card). We got an RMA replacement and after the card was swapped it ran like a champ. Since your CPU has an onboard graphics chipset you should be able to verify by pulling out the GPU and testing with onboard.

Thank you for your help! When I took the GPU out it worked perfectly fine and it let my enter the Motherboards BIOS. I do want to put a graphics card in it though, is there anything I can do with the current card or do you think its defective and I need to get a new one? Thank you very much.

Yes most likely it's defective. I had this issue. Contact the retailer/manufacture if it's under warranty and request an RMA.

If it's not under warranty, you'll need to purchase a new card.
