It has been about a year since i decided that I was going to get a new computer. My old one I got as a graduation present in 2000, Compaq K7 800MHz, 128 RAM.
I wanted to build my own after alot of frustration with my Compaq. I came across this site, and have read nearly all of the "101's" put up by Praetor, Lax, vortmax, DCIScouts, and the like. First thanks is to you guys putting up relevant information on picking parts and building your own.
Next thanks is to everyone who has answered my questions that I have posted.
Once I had my parts picked out, and now that I have it built, I have found a site, www.tomshardware.com I don't think anyone here is affiliated with this site, but if you are, THANK YOU. This site picks up right where the "101's" leave off.
I'll list my new parts and leave this thread open for comments and suggestions.
Oh, and thanks to Newegg, for supplying much of my info of the market and delivereing all my parts.
AMD Athlon 3500+ AM2 Orleans
MSI K9N Neo-F nForce 550
XClio 450BL
OCZ Gold 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
MSI NX6600 TD256ESP Geforce 6600 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16
COOLMAX CS-480-Black W/O PSU Black Steel/Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Bottom Line: ~$550 including shipping.
Now that it is working, I am trying to learn everything about my BIOS and Clock speeds so that I can have this rig tweaked out. Also I have been dabbling in Linux, (Ubuntu, Dapper Drake). My HDD is partitioned for 150GB for XP, and 100 for Linux. All for education and experimentation.
