new computer configuration help needed

Just came across this site. Lots of info, but most of it goes right over my head! Will keep reading though and try to learn a little.

In the meantime, I was hoping I could get some help with a new computer setup. I've never taken one apart or upgraded anything, so I need to buy something that's already setup.

Budget is about $700, maybe a little more

I'd like something that'll help with a small business. Don't need lots of business work but would like to be able to do invoices, mailing lists, customer profiles, etc. Also, what programs would be best for this.
Other than that, mostly search internet and send emails. No gaming.

Thanks!

Here is a thread with configurations for under $700 as well, however these are geared more for gaming.

You could probably get a great computer for $700 if you only plan on using it for office type programs. I think that you will want an intel processor if you are doing office type programs.

Im planning on building my first computer soon so im not an expert yet. Ive found all the 101 forums to be very helpful. Section 3a of building a computer 101 has these threads listed.

Read around and ask lots of questions. Everyone is very friendly here.
Google also has lots of answers.

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I've never changed any components. I could probably do a simple upgrade but wouldn't feel comfortable with building a system.
I'm not interested in a server, just a workstation. Nothing that has to handle large amounts of business. But I don't know what porgrams would handle those simple business items (and I might be in the wrong section to ask).
I have checked out Dell. Heard in the past their service was great, but have no experience with them. Did a few examples of 'customizing', got real confused and figured I'd ask folks who know. I could guess, but then I'd pay for things I wouldn't really need and may not get what I do.

The reason for the smaller budget is we don't use the computer for lots of things. For business... invoices, customer lists, maybe fliers. For personal... surfing web, sending emails, personal finances, simple photo editing. No gaming, videos or music.

Thanks again!

Office 2003 package has Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc. which are all great programs for the office.
