New computer, dvd drive not working

Hi. Recently built a new computer but the dvd drive is not showing up. It's not in the boot device priority settings in the BIOS nor is it in Device Manager. It has power because I can open/close it. I've tried different cables but nothing. Thought it might have something to do with slave/master jumpers but it doesn't have any.

One thing I suspect is I had to use my old dvd drive when installing Vista because the newer one uses a SATA power connector and I didn't have one at the time.

Mobo: Foxconn A6VMX

DVD-drive: Samsung TS-H653B

Thanks for your time.

Since you tried more then one cable you can rule that out easy enough. But that then points at a defective drive. The fact that it's not seen on the post screen indicates a bad drive unless all of the cables were no good? That would be rare while not impossible.

It strongly suggests a bad drive. You can't go by the disk drawer since that will work while the rest won't. Since it isn't seen in the drives listed at post time and can generally rule out a bad cable you need to send it back if you just got the drive in.

Besides the device manager you can also toss a disk in the drive and look in the Disk Management tool there to see if am optical drive shows up. there That would be thing when simply not seen in Windows Explorer or MyComputer(Computer for Vista). But when not even seen at post time you have to plan on replacing it.
