New Computer Help NEW PROBLEM!

so all the stuff for my new computer should be coming tomorrow, but i have a question...

i want to transfer some of my stuff from my current HD (about 10 GB worth) to the new HD i ordered (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144701), then wipe the old HD and use it just for windows

1. can i just hook everything up and it'll work fine? i saw in another thread that windows doens't like a lot of new hardware at once and so it may not boot up, if that's the case:

2. should i just put the RAM, processor, mobo, and HDs into the new computer and see if that works?

thanks in advance!

i was thinking about that, but i dont know if i could, my old mobo supports SATA, but not the SATA 3.0 GB/s that the new HD is, so i wasn't sure if they would work together

The new HDD will work in an old SATA port, just slower. I would reccomend putting it in your old rig like they said above, and transferring files before your build your new comp.

thanks for the help guys!

ok so i got all my stuff, install the new HD in the old computer, but something's wrong...

the HD appears in the hardware manager, but it doesn't show up in My Computer, please help!

(there's no manual for the HD so i have no idea where the jumpers should be or anything)

Well, that's your first problem. Get the make and model of your drive and go to the manufacturers site. It should say on there what the jumper positions are.

having trouble finding anything useful on there, i've already tried all 4 positions... nothing

The new HDD isnt formatted yet! you need to format it with the Disk Manager.

START->PROGRAMS->ACCESSORIES->SYSTEM TOOLS???
all i see are disk cleanup and disk defragmenter, i thought you could right-click on the drive in My Computer and format it from there? but like i said i dont see it there

i haven't updated windows... do i need SP1 or SP2 for the drivers to work?

you got a message that everything was installed proparly? if so then did u restart ur computer afterwords? sometimes that helps also check your device manager via right-click my computer>select properties>click hardware tab>click device manager and see if ur hdd is in there

You need to go to Control Panel>(make sure it is set to Classic View) Administrative Tools>Computer Management> Disk Management, you will see your drive there, hopefully, and and you will be able to format it to NFTS there.

Nothing even uses the 1.5GB worth of bandwidth on the SATA 1 hard drives, so you will be fine. And everything is all backwords compatible so everything will work fine.

update:

ok so i got the HD to work on the old computer, transferred everything over, and built the new computer (using it now!) but the new HD is only reading as 127 GB when its actually 250 GB... what gives??

could it be that i haven't updated windows?

Ya one of the service packs I think it was, don't remember which one expanded the maximum size of the hard drive from 130 to something else, so just update windows.
