Just received my new computer today^ from cyberpowersystems.com. When I attempt to plug in my mouse/keyboard into the back panel... the mouse/keyboard do not work. The laser light on my optical mouse comes on but no movement and keyboard does not work (type). I can plug in my mouse via usb but I need my keyboard to fill in the microsoft windows xp home edition serial number. (It comes preloaded with xp home edition.)

just use a usb keybaord for now or a ps2 to usb adapter. it sounds like a driver issue when u get it running try getting latest drivers for Motherboard. It could also be a IRQ conflict PS2 mouse uses irq 11 if im not mistaking you can go into device manager to make sure their is no iqr conflict (each device needs its own irq)

Try having only the keyboard pluged in and see if it works?
Also during initial boot up can you use the keyboard to get into bios... i.e does F2 or Del work?

Does the keyboard work during BIOS stage? If not then you can either go USB and check that PS2 is enabled in BIOS or return it

Are you sure that it is in the keyboard port, not the mouse port? I know that it sounds stupid, but check.

Message to BOBO:

That doesnt actually matter that much, both PS/2 ports on the motherboard run off the same BUS in the BIOS settings. If they are in the wrong ports then it shouldnt create a problem, only if the BIOS isnt smart enough to recognise and switch the data paths around.

Except that, that's not the case. Plugging a mouse/keyboard into the opposing socket wont give you the desired results ;)
