New computer, need help working out the bugs

I bought an HP Media Center m1170n recently. It was the last one in the store so it was the store demo. I didnt reformat it, cause I thought it would all work out fine, but theres a couple little problems I want to iron out. First is the computer will freeze when you press start, then shutdown. It will just hang while I wait for the options for shutdown to popup. So right now I have to use the power button to turn it off. Second it takes forever to shutdown, you can tell it stops loading for a couple mins, then it will start again. third and lastly one of the dvd rom drives is acting weird, it wont autoplay and sometimes it wont recognize that a new cd has been put in it. I'm installing registry mechanic now so hopefully this will help.
 
did u get the restore cd/dvd with the system? since it was a demo system i would definatly restore, since tons of people would have been playing with it at the store. . .
 
ya it has a restore thing. But I ran registry mechanic and it fixed both the shutdown problems. I have yet to test out the cd drive. I still cant find anything that has been screwed around with, so I think I'm ok for the system restore thing. I would do the restore but I already put a bunch of things on it that I dont want to have to install again. If there is in fact a major problem with it I will restore it at any time.

Well to rule out software issues and tackle the problem in the quickest manner it would prolly be wise to do a restore ... also make sure that the pagefile isnt being cleared on shutdown as that can extend the shutdown time by quite a bit
 
you can always use the restore disk to repair windows instead of restoring it.....as far as the drive....being a floor model, ppl may have tugged and pulled on the drive. you never know. if after repairing windows the drive acts the same, maybe switch the drive with another and see how it works.
