I'm not sure if this is the correct section, but considering I have a RAM issue I thought it apt to post here.
Recently I bought a customised computer from www.pcspecialist.co.uk, I had a couple of issues with the monitor showing 'no signal' but after a quick call to tech support it was diagnosed as a faulty memory stick (I have two 2gb sticks of RAM). The RAM is due to be replaced when the courier arrives sometime tomorrow.
Hmkay, this is where I start to get out of my depth with regards to my knowledge of computer internals. I assumed that playing computer games would be possible on the system even without the extra stick of RAM, surely a single 2gb stick will suffice for a game 2-3 years old? So I installed three games, each one either didn't run properly (black screen then back to desktop) or an error occurred. These games work fine on my laptop (albeit lacking severely in quality), so I know the discs aren't damaged. Could the lack of the extra memory stick be affecting this? Personally, I doubt that the RAM is the problem. I installed my own copy of Windows 7, which has yet to have been validated as the computer doesn't currently contain a wireless card and I'm unable to connect to the internet. Because it hasn't been validated online there is a constant reminder in the bottom right hand corner stating that, "This copy of windows is not genuine" with some kind of build error. Also, windows media player files do not play.
What do you guys think the problem could be? Do Microsoft essentially try to disable you from using their OS without validation? Or does the working stick of RAM require the other stick to function properly?
Thanks.
