New computer, old drive

Stupid question ahead, beware =D


As of today, I've two computers: a new one with XP, and an old one with 98. They both work well, but the problem is that I'm not sure how I can put the drive of my old computer into the new one. To clarify, I know how to physically put in a drive into a computer and hook it up (I'm not that incompetent ), the question I have is whether there will be a conflict when I put the old HD into the new computer. Do I have to uninstall Win '98 on the old HD first, or do I only need to swith it to 'slave'?

only switch it to slave on the jumper pins... your competent enough to do this.. give yourseelf more credit.

The jumper pins tell the computer which to read for boot information..

I would then save all the info you want to save, then delete all the windows/program files folders etc...

First, what kind of hard drive interfaces (should be written on the hard drive) are the new and old hard drives? .. they might not be compatible...

you will need to set the old hdd to slave via the jumpers ! then just connect it to the machine, the format will be fat32 and you will probably need to format it to NTFS but its no biggy just go to devise manager and do it there.

Thanks for the (quick! ) replies. I don't know what type of HD's they are, but the bulk of my question has been answered (that you only need to switch one to be 'slave', despite it having a different OS than the master).

I'll get around to looking at the types of HD's after I get dinner finished (no rest for the wicked =D )
