i received a 'fried' computer. my friend told me it was his moms and it had been knocked out by a lightning strike so i went and got a new psu. the old one worked fine on another computer so i took the new one back and proceeded to figure out what was actually wrong. i wanted to see if the heat sink was on the processor correctly and i took it off. the thermal paste was wiped off of the processor and the processor wasn't seated correctly. i thought something was amiss so i tried turning on the computer after pressing it in 'correctly'. the hds spun up, but no video or anything else. i took another look at the processor and it was not put in correctly (the triangles weren't lined up). i'm sure that nuked the proc, but would that have also damaged the mobo? the socket looks fine. the computer is a dell dimension 3000 if that makes any difference.
thanks in advance.
