New Computer or Upgrade

Well ill start things off by saying I have a Dell dimension 4600 not exactly top of the line. Its stock except with some updated ram I think. I want a new computer to play top of the line fps games online. I was wondering do you guys think its possible to upgrade/ replace some of the outdated parts in this one or start from scratch. Right now I have about $300 and could probably get a little more from my parents. However if I buy a new computer I could probably get another $150 from my younger bro if I give him this one however then I would be starting from scratch with nothing.

Since you guys are the experts I thought you could help me with my problem. Upgrade or start from scratch.

Thanks in advance
Riddick

Im kind of new to this whole thing so tell me if you need other info.

Your dell machine do not worth upgrade.
However, with $450 budget, it will be hard to get a new machine as the OS already get $120 out of your pocket.

So the only thing you can do is upgrade...
I will say you go for a minimal upgrade of GPU + PSU. Save the money up for new build in future.
I have checked on internet that you should have APG slot, please double check before you purchase a graphic card.
GECUBE GC-RX165GA2-E3R
Antec earthwatts EA380

And may be add 1GB RAM to make it 1.5GB in total (optional)

Make sure his PSU is ATX and not BTX ;)

So is there anyway I can use some of my old parts like sounds card and whatever else is still update and replace the rest of it. It would be more like reusing then upgrading if you know what I mean.

Yes, although most likely your sound card is integrated...

Get back to us about the OS. Do you have a XP/Vista DVD/CD Disk that came with the computer?

Im trying to find out my computer has Windows XP. Ill try and let you know if I find it. So what do you think I should do just try and save up for another computer. My Income is 0 until summer starts so I may have to wait until then.

I couldnt find it my Dad's friend is real good with computers and I think he got it for us and installed it. It came with Windows 98.

Oh I dont know I had nothing to do with it we got this computer awhile ago. So, whats that mean with the whole upgrade or get a new computer thing?

GFX - Have it, can almost play BF2 at full settings... Probably can't because it runs on a Celeron 1.6.... and the requirement is 1.8 :P And 1.8 is for Pentiums... And Celerons are decapitated Pentiums... thus... :D

PSU - Runs great for me! 2GB, 80GB, HD3850, E2140, P31-DS3L, 3x 80mm case fans, 1x 70mm expansion fan, Rosewill aftermarket Cooler, DVD Burner... powers all that for such a cheap PSU.

CASE - A bit flimsy once in a while, but overall, flashy, and looks ALOT better when you recieve it :D. The rear 80mm fan is crappy though, probably 10-15CFM only. I'd recommend buying a quality fan and replacing it, and using that fan as a intake fan.

Alright thanks alot and if I can get an OS should I upgrade the gfx card?

Also do you know if it will run COD4 and other new games?

Also so I can't use anything from my old computer besides monitor, speakers, keyboard, and mouse?

If you got a OS yourself, you save $111. And I'd get these: HD3850. Although it'd still be a bit over your budget... I have it in my rig. GREAT card. You'll never regret it. Meets all my gaming needs.

The only time a Dell reinstallation cd won't work is if the original motherboard gets replaced and the new motherboard is not made by dell.
