Hi Everyone,
I just bought a new computer b/c the motherboard died. Below is the new computer specs which includes the new graphics card it will come with (the basic one that was available)

Core i7 4790K 4 Ghz
16 GB ram
256 SSD
1 TB Hard drive
Nvidia GeForce GTX 745 (available to OEMs only)
Here's a link to the information for it. It's 4GB and the other stuff is above my head

My current video card is an XFX GeForce 9800 GTX+. It's 512MB and below is a link to its specs.

I really don't do any gaming anymore. The most intensive game I play is Microsoft FSX which is primarily CPU driven hence the new 4GHz processor. I only use one monitor and don't really have any plans to start using additional ones. Really, either one is probably fine, but I'd rather keep the better of the two since I'd have them both. Given that I got the 9800 GTX+ a long time ago I'm sure there have been many changes in memory or input output speeds that are beyond me. Power consumption is not really an issue for me.

I looked at the link below for a comparison and while it gives the 745 GTX a better rating it seems that it's skewed because of some of the higher resolutions.

Any assistance or opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

What is your actual question here? ;)

Between the two it'd be foolish to ride with the 9800

You're correct that the questions is which one should I go forward with. Yes, looking at it on the surface just seeing 4GB over 512 MB seems extremely obvious, but then on the comparison website I noticed this bit
"The GeForce 9800 GTX+ has 41.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 745, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce 9800 GTX+ is noticeably better than the GTX 745."
which is why I'm questioning the decision. The new GTX 745 card didn't win in all of the categories. Is the basic card of today better than the higher end card of yesterday. As I mentioned, I don't need support for multiple monitors. I just want to know that the new card is as good or better than the 9800 GTX+.

RAM and RAM bandwidth doesn't dictate total performance. It's a part of the equation but a more minor one compared to the GPU core.

The modern equivalent of a 9800GTX is something like the GTS250, which was mid range 7 years ago.

If you want a direct comparison you can run benchmarks on the same system with each GPU, but the 745 is a hell of a lot more capable, albeit low-mid end for modern GPUs.
